Assessments & Reporting
Students are assessed in various skills, including phonological and phonemic awareness, word-level decoding, fluency, and spelling, identifying both strengths and areas for growth. A monthly progress report is issued to families summarizing the student’s learning goals and skill development.
Predictable Routines
Routine-based lesson structures create consistent opportunities for practice and review. Every lesson begins with a skills-based warm-up before progressing into phonics skills and independent application of exercises through orthographic mapping, dictation, and word chains.
Decodable Passages
Students practice phonics skills with decodable passages that align to each lesson. These short texts incorporate vocabulary and comprehension while providing skills-based practice.
Vocabulary Practice
Each lesson includes engaging vocabulary practice that helps students connect meaning, deepen understanding, and confidently use new words in their own reading and writing.
High-frequency Words
High-frequency words are aligned to phonics skills in the scope and sequence, creating developmentally appropriate opportunities for orthographic mapping.

Tutoring in the library creates a learning environment that closely mirrors a classroom setting. Compared to a home setting, the library offers fewer personal distractions and a more neutral, structured environment where students more readily accept instructional routines. Being surrounded by books and other learners also reinforces academic identity and supports the transfer of skills back into the classroom.
